I'd been looking forward to this year's beach trip for a long time! Last year the beach was fun, but it was nearly impossible to get outside for any length of time because I was having to feed Charlotte every 2-3 hours, and by the time I fed her, threw on my bathing suit and went outside, it was time to feed again!
Fast forward to this year...anyone can feed her, she walks and talks, and is WAY more interactive and let's face it, WAY more fun!
Our journey to the beach went much like last year. We made a midway pit stop in Williamsburg for lunch and to stretch our legs (this year, Charlotte could actually stretch her legs by walking and not just laying there in the car seat). We got back on the road after an hour or so to make the rest of the trip. Charlotte fell asleep for an hour or so on the second half of the drive.
A trip to OBX also means at least 1 trip to everyone's favorite dine-in-your-car restaurant, Sonic! There are 2 locations on the road leading to OBX so we decided to make a stop for a little snack, you know, to give us the strength to make it the last 45 minutes of the drive :) We parked, placed our order, and then decided to eat outside of the car at one of the lovely tables they have outside since it is not that easy to feed a toddler in the car.

We finally made it to the house about 4pm (after leaving home around 8 that morning). With all the stops it wasn't that bad of a trip, and we made decent time. My parents were happy to greet us, we unloaded our car full of stuff and got settled in. After dinner, a bath and the usual nighttime routine, Charlotte went to sleep in the rented crib with minimal protest.
