Remembering Nana

Typically I post happy and funny things on this blog, but unfortunately today we got some sad news. My Nana (my Mom's Mom) passed away today. Charlotte didn't get to spend much time with her, and thus I have very few pictures of them together. These are from very early on in Charlotte's life.

Although her passing was a bit sudden and unexpected, she had been going through a mild illness and was getting physical therapy in a rehabilitation facility. I am sad that Nana will not be able to attend Charlotte's Baptism this coming weekend, which she was so looking forward to. She bought the beautiful dress that Charlotte will wear on Sunday, and this will be a special way to remember her.

Prunes, seriously?

So we've made it through several stage 1 foods thus far - sweet potatoes, squash, carrots, applesauce and pears. Left on the shelf in the pantry to try - green beans, peas, prunes and bananas. I decided to give prunes a try as, well, let's just say they would counteract the effects of the carrots on the digestive system. The first few bites didn't phase Charlotte in the least, but I guess it took a few minutes for her taste buds to kick into gear...

Hey these aren't so bad!

Ok, here comes another bite...

What are you trying to do to me Mom?!?

Sorry Charlotte, you are stuck with prunes for the next few days, but then I promise you'll be able to try something new. Although i'm sure she'll be begging for prunes once I put a spoonful of anything green in her mouth!

Cookin' Baby

Daddy was working late tonight, so Charlotte and I decided (well, had to) to do a little dinner prep together before bathtime. Chili was on the menu, so of course we had to have cornbread to go with it! I didn't have any Jiffy mix, so we had to settle for the ChiChi's Fiesta Corn Cake (which actually tastes better in my opinion!). I didn't think Charlotte would sit in her bouncer on the floor while I was making it without fussing to be picked up, so I decided to bring her in on the action.

(disclaimer - I know that the directions state that this is not a safe use of this product, but I assure you that I was standing by the entire time!)

Getting ready to start...

I'm ready to stir! Although I seem to be distracted by the water bottles on the counter.

Yum!

This activity kept Charlotte sufficiently entertained between her dinner and bathtime, which is always a difficult time of day!

Funny

Potential caption for this one...

"Buddy could you spare a dime? (I just think she looks a tad bit on the homeless person side with this hat on!) :)

Charlotte's First Snow

Well...her first dusting anyway.

Here is Steve showing Charlotte the snow on the deck.

It looked more impressive on the deck than out the front door.

We decided to put Charlotte in her snowman pajamas for the occasion!

Hopefully we'll have a "real" snow this season so we can really show Charlotte what it is like!

Another new food...

I could probably just post the same pictures each time we introduce a new food because they seem to be identical. Tonight however we got some pretty cute and unique looks. On the menu - applesauce, and of course the standard rice cereal. Charlotte is really fond of chewing on her hands these days, and that mixed with mouthfuls of food result in this -

After an initial sour reaction to the applesauce, she eventually finished the whole container!

A Cold Day

It was quite a chilly day in NoVA today, but we needed to venture out for a few errands. I put Charlotte in a long sleeve onesie, fleece sweatshirt and cute pants. We even wore our Nike sneakers today. Although they only stayed on for a short while.

Charlotte also got to wear her winter hat for the first time!

Our adventures included opening a bank account for Miss Charlotte, picking up a special Christmas gift for someone and eating a yummy lunch at Baja Fresh. We didn't stay out long!
